Impact

during 3 years and counting,

Epiplantpath has a dual impact in the community

On the one hand, this community and the tools I share through it have been invaluable for many young scholars achieving their professional or academic dreams. It is hard to properly quantify this impact but see below some of the messages I have received:

On the other hand, this account helped Colombians and other Spanish-speakers from multiple countries navigate the two pandemics the world has been facing: the Covid-19 pandemic and the misinformation pandemic that accompanied it. See data on this impact below:

Inspiring and supporting fellow scholars

Applied for a Fullbright scholarship to do my Ph.D. in the U.S.

“Juliana, thank you so much for your content. It impulsed me towards applying! I have learned a ton and, above all, your experiences and tips have helped me navigate my Ph.D. both at the academic and emotional levels”.

Applied and currently are doing a master´s in Brasil

“Although I already wanted to do a master´s, this community showed me that it was indeed possible. It would be great to create a conference between Colombian women in different areas of science to make our job more visible and empower more women and younger generations of our country to dream big. I would be happy to participate and have a friend who is an astrophysicist who would also love to!”.

— Anonymous but currently trying to contact her in order to make this happen!

I now have the support and motivation to try it

“I have always been afraid of even thinking of applying because of the possible rejection and how overwhelming the process can be. With this community I now feel more motivated, I feel supported and sure that I can do things even if that generates me some anxiety. I have not applied yet but haven been researching how the process and paperwork is to apply for a scholarship in Japan. Thank you very much! I hope that you know how impactful your work is”.

“Your tips on how to apply to grad school and also how to survive in Academia always help me! I think it is great how you communicate science, it is truly amazing and I wish I can do it sometime in the future. I applied to four universities and was accepted in all

Now that I am a professor, this community helps me reflect on my own experience and how to better serve my students

“I am also Colombian and graduated not too long ago from my Ph.D. at the University of Pittsburgh. I am now an Assistant Professor and I mentor master´s students. Your perspective has helped me reflect on how my own graduate experience was and have a better idea of what my students´ needs may be. Congrats on this project! and on your Ph.D. I wish you a lot of success in these last few months, the job market, and the future!”.
